Basket Maker

Basket making came to Emory Ford after retiring as a research scientist. As a boy he worked with his father, a self-taught carpenter, who worked mostly with hand tools. Emory became a chemist and instead of building with wood was a molecular carpenter. After retiring, Emory attended the Hill Institute to learn basketmaking.  

His baskets include Nantucket style baskets and as well as Shaker style utilitarian baskets in a variety of sizes.  On request, Emory makes baskets for specific needs. The baskets are handmade in his basement shop; they can be stained or left to age to the material’s natural
