Denise Girardin

Acrylics

Local artist Denise Girardin has worked in many different mediums including ceramics, beading, collage and recycled art, but is a relative newcomer to painting. Her intuitive layering method typically results in a rather fanciful outcome. She always attempts to create with a whimsical and playful hand and hopes that seeing her art makes you smile. :)

As a member of the Public Art Committee for the Natick Center Cultural District, Denise has assisted in managing the NCCD Electric Box painting project. This beautification project matches local artists with boxes located in the NCCD in an attempt to take ordinary industrial functional utility boxes and turn them into art. She was also chosen to paint a Little Free Library for the Bacon Free Library (Natick, MA) for their pilot program of placing 6 LFL’s in select locations in Natick. In addition Dense has coordinated a number of public art projects including the Locks & Keys Project, a 2 year long public art project that drew participants from over 15 states, England, Ireland, Japan and Australia. In addition, Denise and a partner received a Foundation Grant from the Natick Education Foundation for the “Freedom Flag” project: an American flag sewn from 1,000+ hand painted fabric squares created within the art classrooms of every Natick elementary school and both Wilson and Kennedy Middle Schools. It currently hangs in the gymnasium at Wilson Middle School.

As a volunteer Denise has worked closely within the Natick Public School system, the Natick Service Council, the Natick Community Senior Center and is one of the founding artists that coordinates the annual Natick Artists Open Studios event. Denise and her husband Steve Levinsky were recipients of the “Heart of the Community” award which is given annually by Natick Center Associates to recognize an individual(s) or organization for outstanding service to the Natick Community.

Denise shares studio space with 5 other artists in the Natick Center Cultural District at The Studios @ 3 Adams and lives in Natick with her husband Steve. Her daughter Sophie is a 2nd grade teacher for the Chicago Public school system and daughter Arabella is a graduate of High Point University and is living a pursuing a career in San Diego, Ca.
