Rosalie Sherman
Rosalie Sherman has been an artist for over 40 years. She graduated from Philadelphia College of Art in 1968 with a BFA in sculpture. In the years that followed, she worked in a variety of materials including wood, fabric, metals and clay. In the 1980's and 1990's. she made site specific sculptures for public venues across the United States. These include a farmpark of cow and sheep benches in Philadelphia, reptile play/sculptures for a children's hospital in Portland, OR, and dog and cat sculptures for the front lawn of a county animal shelter in Tampa, FL. She even created a 12-1/2 foot high Dog House (an edifice in the shape of a Bull Terrier) made out of aluminum siding and lumber for Artpark in Lewiston, NY. Now, she’s turned her attention to everyday surroundings, making affordable sculptures for the home. In her studio outside of Philadelphia, she creates hooks that are giraffes and penguins, knobs of dogs named Bob and a myriad of animals and people you could hang your hat on, literally. It pleases her to know her little cast of characters are opening cabinets and holding brooms in homes around the world. |
