Laurie Leavitt

    Light has consistent presence and has always been an inspiration in my work. It is present in my impressionistic landscapes but also in the more precisely rendered fruits and vegetables. Inspired by the beautiful juxtaposition of the warm and cool groupings on the grocery store shelves, I heighten the contrast between light and dark to establish depth, form and volume. My recent landscapes are the most abstract and impressionistic of my paintings. The complexity of trees with all their colorful leaves as the light shines through, defies a strict rendering but allows me to get lost in the two dimensional surface, texture and color of the canvas and paint. 

 I have always loved to draw and paint. After majoring in art in college and spending a year at the Museum School of Fine Arts, I worked in advertising as a graphic artist. For the last 10 years I’ve returned to painting full time. I have exhibited extensively in the Boston area and my paintings are held in private and corporate collections.  I also accept commissions.
