A
blurb about silk work that I do.
I am "old fashion" I like to feel the goods rather than order from the internet.
I like to "hunt" because when I "find" it inspires me. I get my silk from local
fabric stores in Boston and vintage kimono silk from a local Japanese store in
Cambridge. I also use vintage silk so I check out local consignment stores,
Salvation Army and Goodwill stores. But I also use Thai silk in California (I
use to buy from them when I lived in the Bay Area). And I shop locally when we
travel to find interesting silks for sewing.
I
do some serti silk painting and watercolor design on silk as well as over
dying. I sometimes pintuck designs to add texture and sometimes add beading.
But usually I work with fabric colors and designs in combination to come up with
my creations. I am inspired by Japanese art and try to add a little contemporary
flair and California "funky fun" to the overall look in both my scarves and
clothing.
