Ginger
McEachern, one of the Five Crows and a local artist from Natick, came to her
current work after dabbling in many different professions. Ginger was a
full-time teacher, a computer artist, and a graphic designer. She has now come
back to her passion to create and work as a full-time artist. Ginger continues
to teach art at the elementary school level.
Ginger works in a variety of mixed media including wire, paper, and natural
objects. She also creates a jewelry line made out of old scrabble pieces.
Inspiration is everywhere! Ginger creates all of the hand made cards and gift
tags for Five Crows using a variety of materials including her hand-made paste
papers.
Ginger’s passion has always been paper and she has enjoyed, over the past few
years, creating first a line of journals both hand sewn and bound. More
recently she has created an amazing variety of decorative boxes. Ginger begins
by using the 16th century method of decorating papers known as paste painting.
Paste papers are colorful hand painted or glazed paper sheets. These are then
cut and folded around hand-built cardboard boxes. Layers are built up to create
the base and top for the boxes. Ginger enjoys searching for the perfect knobs
and feet for the boxes. Each one is unique—a special treasure! All of Ginger’s
journals are also decorated with her vibrant paste papers.
Although her passion is paper Ginger also enjoys working with wire making
sculptures, including fish that drip with sea glass, beetles for your garden
made from New England beach stones and wire, copper bird feeders and sea glass
jewelry.
Ginger gets great joy from her art and it shows! Her pieces are unique and
whimsical. “I hope to continue to grow as an artist but feel I am closer to my
true calling than I have ever been before in my life! It is truly exciting and
fun!” says Ginger.
