I studied three-dimensional
design and pottery at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. In
1997 I found Mudflat Pottery School in Somerville, MA and have been making
high-fire functional ware ever since.
Much of my work is influenced by Ironstone ceramics from the 1850's, the work of
European silversmiths, and the human form. Nature and modern glassware also
play a part in my design aesthetics.
Some of the things I love/hate about working with clay is the challenge of it.
Having so many variables with a flexible material and differing kiln
conditions, each piece becomes a gift and surprise. The glazes I choose to work
with require exact application and firing. It is thru this process that makes
each piece unique.
